What is welding?

Image
Welding is the process by which two similar or dissimilar metals are joined. Is may be in the form of extreme heat (upto melting temperature) and by using filler metal or gases, that will make the process of joining the similar or dissimilar metals. There are different types of welding methods are there for example Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), Metal inert Gas welding (MIG), Tungsten inert Gas welding (TIG) etc... Is welded portion is stronger than base metal, yes it of is. Most of the cases the welded part is harder than that of original metal. Then coming to Welding joints, some joints are T-joint, Lap joint, Butt joint, Corner joint, Edge joint.  The different types of joints are made for different applications or for their service life. Depending upon forces or magnitude of load acting on weld joints, the design of welding joints are determined.

What is WPS PQR WPQ?

Welding Procedure  Specification (WPS) : WPS is specification wrote to Provide direction to the welder or Welding operator for Making Sound quality of Weld as per Code Requirements.  The welding variables are  Joints(QW-402),  Base metal(QW-403), Filler metal(QW-404),  Positions(QW-405),  Pre-heat(QW-406),  PWHT(QW-407),  Gas(QW-408), E characteristics QW-409),  Techniques(QW-410). WPS Welding Variables categorised as Essential Welding Variable, Supplementary essential Variables and Non Essential variables. Essential Welding Variables : If any changes in the variable will make difference in mechanical properties of the weld joints then the requalification of WPS required. Supplementary essential variable : If any changes intin affect thoughness properties of the joint where the thoughness testing is necessary at this case supplementary variable becomes an essential variable and requalification of WPS is required for this. When toughne...

Roles and responsibilities of QA/QC Engineer

Image
The basic function of Quality Assurance/Quality Control  Engineers is to ensure the quality of products by involved in every stage of production, starting with development of drawing, incoming inspection, inprocess inspection, final inspection and pre-despatch inspection at the last packing and loading. Depends on size of the industry there will be a different departments for each process. The QC engineers also responsible for calibration of instruments and tools and tackles used in the industry. In some cases they also looking after company certification, conducting internal audits arranging external audits.   The Process flow of the QC dept. is Step 1: Development drawings, Preparation of Quality plan, Raw material inspection, instrument inspections, documents or reports. Step 2: Inprocess inspections or manufacturing inspections, trainings, calibration and testing, documents or reports.  Step 3:  Final or finished products, Customer satisfaction, improvements...
